AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Can Sri Aurobindo’s Integral synthesis be considered as a new darshana (making Sad Darshana into Sapta Darshana) or would it be a new school of Vedanta (along with mayavadic advaita, dwaita, vishitadvaida, say, as a Purna/Integral advaita)? Would appreciate if you can please elaborate on this🤔. Thank you.

Sri Aurobindo used the term Realistic  Vedanta as well as synthetic Vedanta so we can call it as saptadarshana which is of the nature of a synthesis that is comprehensive enough to include the other systems and schools and goes beyond where each is seen as complimentary and co-existent with the others rather than mutually opposing and exclusive.  This is possible because these different systems are reflection of the three layers of the Supermind through which creation descends from Oneness to multiplicity. But apart from that Sri Aurobindo synthesises, Vedanta and Tantra, God and world, which is what is meant by Realistic Vedanta as contrast to the Illusionist Vedanta.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
