AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Some devotees of the Mother suggest that when we are in her presence, we shouldn’t pray to other gurus or gods or perform any unnecessary kuldeiva pooja. Coming from an orthodox family, this can be challenging. Why is it advised not to follow other practices? Does this relate to energy levels๐Ÿ˜ณ?

It is best to be one-pointed in Bhakti. That brings best results for inner progress. But when we pray to different deities then it brings different and often contrary influences which may not be helpful for sadhana. That is why absolute surrender to one Master or Guru is recommended (though not enforced) in every tradition of Yoga.ย

Affectionately,

Alok Da

What was being refered to are the stock and standard Bhajans which hardly fall into the true category. But there are beautiful soul-uplifting bhajans with equally beautiful music that flows from the depths which is even helpful at one stage of sadhana, especially in the preliminary stages. An example of the former type could be, ‘suna hai …
