AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Goddess Gayatri is my Ishta Devata. I chant Gayatri mantra regularly for a bright future for my family. Till now I believed that Mother Gayatri bestows wisdom, prosperity and strength on her sadhaka so that he can live a happy meaningful life. I used to meditate🧘‍♂️ like this during Gayatri Japa which was as advised by my parents & guru. …

But when I came to know that every goddess has limited and specific powers and they generally do not go beyond those, I tried to know in details about the powers of goddess gayatri & meaning of the mantra and realised that Gayatri Devi basically only inspires our intellect (Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat) for making best possible efforts in acquiring absolute peace, tremendous fighting spirit and enriching abundance but she has no function and therefore no power to grant us these qualities or intervene if required. When I realised like this, I am finding myself exposed to this world, completely dependent only on my own efforts and no assured grace from my Ista Devta – Goddess Gayatri in the event my efforts fall short in leading a beautiful life.

This whole episode has affected my devotion and the quality of mantra sadhana. I even thought of shifting to worship different deities according to their powers like Saraswati, Lakshmi, Durga, Ganesh etc because I strongly believe that a common man’s efforts have their many limitations and he will always be in need of divine grace to sail through life

You can deal with this dilemma in two different ways. First is that though each god or goddess has a certain limited function, the overriding factor of faith is very important in spiritual matters. Because behind the gods and goddesses is the Supreme Divine and He knows your true seeking. It is He who ultimately grants everything and can indeed use any channel for fulfilling your deeper aspiration.

Second way is to take it thus that goddess Gayatri, knowing your heart has inspired you to go beyond her so that you can directly connect with the Supreme Divine who dwells in every heart as the Gita says. Meanwhile during the transition you can continue to use the Gayatri Mantra as well as add a mantra of the Divine Mother as the Supreme Shakti, such as the one, ‘ya devi sarvabhiteshu shaktiroopena sansthita. Nanastasyei namastasyei namastasyei namo namah’ . All aspects of the Divine Mother are included in it. Or else, if you feel inwardly inspired you can take up the mantra of the Supreme Mother given by Sri Aurobindo,

Om Anandamayee, Chaitanyamayee, Satyamayee Parame.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

I am drawn to the Mother’s Teachings, and for the past couple of years spent quite some time reading and taking notes on a variety of subjects. I now feel that I have read enough and it is time for me to start living them. I am doing that, slowly and steadily, notably in work and in parenting. Also, with regards to my health, I am making efforts to regularly exercise, eat a good diet, etc. The Mother herself said this: “It is best to live a Divine teaching”. 😊🙏🏻🌸🌏[…]

Your aspiration as well as anguish is quite understandable. Yes, there are so many things in the writings of Sri Aurobindo that would be of immense benefit to anyone regardless of whether one takes up the yoga or not. There is so much in the field of personal growth in several ways, so much of deepest wisdom in fields of ….

I heard in your recent talk that for a long time of 12 years, the Sadhana moves with ups and downs, but after 12 years, the Sadhana becomes smooth and blissful. Kindly add some more words to it, dear Alok da, as it gives me a sense of Reassurance. 😊🙏🏻🪷❤️‍🔥

I said that it is mentioned in spiritual literature that it takes almost 12 years for the basic purification to take place before one is ready to take off properly. It may take long or short depending upon the sincerity. Also one may …

I believed earlier that all of the manifested Universe is a part of the Apara Prakriti. But the Mother says that nature is infra-rational? But then I wonder whether reason is an instrument of Para Prakriti? Isn’t it too imperfect? What is the joining link of Nature with the Mother? 🌌🤔❤️‍🔥🪷

Para and Apara Prakriti are simply two different modes of working of One Consciousness-Force. In its origin it is the Conscious Power of the Divine, also called as the Shakti of the Ishwara. The knowledge in the Shakti or …
