AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Sometimes we see how very common people around us progress in a very short span of time. That looks like a fairy tale. Why do such things happen😪? I know these are exceptions but still what could be the reasons for these?

How do we define common? We think that being born in poverty or a modest family with not much support or even not performing exceptionally in the school is being a common person. But the real criteria is within. A common man is he who is satisfied with the average ordinary life of comfort and material success. Most are indeed like that. But there are a few who nurture within them, often unknown to others, a flame of progress, an inbuilt faith in destiny and, dreams of a greater, happier life. Forces of the future respond to the persistent Idea and Faith within a person with which our destiny is shaped.

There are others who instinctively follow their inner lead, swadharma, rather than the pressure and demand from the Society and environment to perform and conform. They are ready to take the challenge and the risk. Even if they miss it prepares them for a future success.

Finally it is also a question of carry over from the past. Some lives are for preparation while some for reaping the fruits of past labour. Therefore one should always put in effort trusting destiny and God to give whatever and whenever He may choose to confer.

There are ofcourse special destinies that apply to those chosen for a specific work in which case an incalculable force of Destiny or Grace acts in a way to fulfil the Divine Will in them regardless of any conditions.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

There is a strong reason for saying this: the essays you have written on the Bhagavad Gita transcend the mere label of “spirituality.” Although psychology and the Bhagavad Gita may seem to deal with contrasting subjects, my understanding is that the Gita serves as a treatise on duty—delivered by Sri Krishna to dispel Arjuna’s mental frailty. I would be grateful if you could kindly answer the following question.

Thank you for your kind words. The Gita is a most wonderful gospel of works ever written. But the idea of works, as far as the Gita is concerned goes beyond the conception of duty. Duty is primarily a Western concept which, put in the language of Indian spiritual thought would mean, doing whatever work falls to our lot with a Sattwic …

Alok da, I have a question. Earlier, I used to feel that if I had worked on something, I should make sure people knew about it, because the person assigning the work should also know what I contributed in order to evaluate me properly. 💼🧑🏼‍💼❤️‍🔥🌼[…]

It is best to leave the result in the hands of the Divine. Self promotion is a bad policy in the long run. It feeds vanity and arrogance while dropping the actual ability to work well. Work should not be a performance but the joy of expressing one’s inner truth. It should …

I am a woman entering into my 30s. Since a small kid, I remember growing up among mostly male cousins. So much so that I used to be a tomboy. I grew up among female classmates and have had mostly female friendships. 👩🏼❤️‍🔥🌼[…]

Being a Tomboy or experiencing protective feelings as well as comparisions with other women does not suggest that one is a lesbian or a bisexual. What matters is a clear sexual orientation, of  feeling physical attraction towards the same gender. All the rest is a …
