AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Does Sri Aurobindo’s Yoga need scientific 🧪thinkers?

Yoga transcends Science. A scientist can be a yogi and vice versa. Ramanujam is one example. In the Sri Aurobindo Ashram itself there have been eminent scientist recognised world over who were also yogis, for example Pavitra da (eminent chemist) Dr Chamanlal Gupta (pioneer in Solar Energy), Dr Venkatraman (National awardee in mathematics), Professor Indrasen (recipient of Indian Science Congress award for pioneering work in psychology), Dr G Venkataswamy (a world renowned ophthalmologist who started chain of Arvind Eye Hospital) and many others. Dr APJ Kalaam was himself inspired by the vision of Sri Aurobindo.

However this does not mean that one needs to be a scientist to take up the yoga. All who understand the limitations of the human consciousness feel the spiritual urge at some point. If they take to the spiritual life it enhances their scientific understanding and does not crush it as we see in certain religions based on blind belief. I am myself a scientist being a medical doctor. Yoga has only helped me become a better and more complete doctor.

Do scientific thinking, project can help us or make us faster in life, if not completely, then what is it that can make it completely?

As i said Science helps develop a kind of analytical reason which is useful for practical life. It has little to do with spiritual progress.
