How do we as humans come closer to our purpose while remaining free from personal likes and dislikes?
We need to understand that there are in us not one but two natures. One nature is that which operates on the surfaces and is the result of our conditioning and habit of thoughts, feelings, actions that develop in the course of our growing up process. If one is driven by it mechanically, especially comparing oneself with others, driven by desires and ambitions, then naturally one cannot discover one’s true calling. It is only when the surface mind becomes quiet and peaceful, when one is not swayed by greed for money or ambition, that one begins to discover the deeper natural innate urge, the swadharma, that action which comes naturally to us. The alignment to our true purpose, the work we are here to do, emerges as an inevitable push from within, a natural inclination, or an innate temperament that takes natural joy in certain activities. This is what you should look for.Β
But even for this, one should be quiet within, do not calculate the results and refuse to be pushed by greed for money.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
