AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

In yoga, the desire for God is the key. How to develop it within yourself? It does not come naturally to me. At present, I need God to help me and my family live a beautiful life. It does not matter whether I am body or soul.

Very few start with a desire for God. Most people approach God for the fulfilment of their desires until one day they end up desiring God himself! A good practice here can be that even though you ask God for objects of desires, trust His wisdom and leave it to Him to grant the wishes or not and take care of your life and all its affairs in His own ways.

Until then it is good to engage in Satsang, listening to the God-lovers and seeking the company of God-seekers and the realised ones. Spend time in reading books of spiritual wisdom and try to lead a life of balance and harmony. All this will help prepare the mind until you are ready to desire God.

Finally remember Him as and when you can and express your gratitude for all the help you receive from Him. It will begin to foster a living rather than a mechanical relationship with Him.

The talk sounded like you were putting down Marriage as a concept! True, some regions do this horse ride/wasting money, which is in bad taste. However, Marriage as a concept gives the monkey minds a framework. πŸ₯ΈπŸ’πŸ’’[…]

Yes, I agree that for the average human being, these outer frameworks and social institutions do serve a purpose of holding people together. Of course, as I mentioned, marriage or not, love and togetherness can be beautiful and ought to be so. But for that, man needs to evolve beyond the present frameworks, which operate as long as one accepts the limits of dos and don’ts. …
