There are quite a few other similarities. Sri Krishna was brought up in a foster home away from his parents and so was Sri Aurobindo. Sri Krishna came back and freed his people from the tyranny of Kansa and so did Sri Aurobindo return and give himself to the work of freeing his motherland from the tyranny of the British. In the jail, of course, we know of their meeting. Sri Krishna participated in the great war of the Mahabharata without lifting arms himself, but through human instruments. Sri Aurobindo participated spiritually to determine the fate of the Second World War without lifting arms. Both were dark in complexion to begin with, though Sri Aurobindo later did grow fair and golden-hued due to the action of the Supramental Force. Both gave primary importance to action with knowledge and bhakti and surrender as the mainstay. Both spoke of Nirvana as a step and the collective evolution (lokasangrahartha) as the eventual goal. Both settled far from their place of birth and by the side of the sea.Β
