Suicide in the Ashram or anywhere else is due to only one cause, and that is the attack of hostile forces. In fact the sadhaka is much more on the radar of these forces as one can see in the entire spiritual history of mankind. The door to these hostile forces is opened by some central insincerity, some deep falsehood or vanity or spiritual ambition, a lack of humility in the sadhaka. Not that the Grace does not do all it must to dissuade the sadhaka from the wrong turn he has taken. But a certain degree of freedom is always given to each sadhaka and if he uses this freedom to be driven by forces of falsehood and refuses to open to the Grace and listen to the voices of Light then well it becomes difficult for the person to return back to the sunlit path in one life. Of course the spiritual destiny always stands and no hostile force can eventually stifle it. But our attitude and actions can delay and complicate the process.
Without going into personal details one of these girls (and then others too) opened the door through a series of lies to cover up an error. Still they got several chances to reconnect with the purpose for which they had come. But instead of learning the lesson and changing within they came increasingly under the influence of wrong and malefic people and forces of falsehood and division. When they eventually lost the meaningless battle which had become nothing but a stark play of the ego, then they took this step. In yoga one is to see the Divine everywhere and in everything but they ended up seeing darkness in everyone who didn’t support them. But I think the one most important factor was that they lost sight of the spiritual goal and instead of practicing equanimity and humility, they started waging a war of the ego. The result was what happened, a sad story that leaves a lesson for others. It is sad not only because they committed suicide which is evidently the sure sign of the forces that besieged them but because they lost the way and the goal throwing away the spiritual possibility that one gets here.
Of course the Grace is there and will take care beyond the life of the body but then a spiritual possibility is not something to be taken lightly and sacrificed at the altar of the ego.
Affectionately,
