Lila is for multiplying the delight of existence in manifold ways. Just as an artist or author expresses what is within him through a painting, a sculpture, or a book for the joy of it, so too the Divine manifests Himself through creation, moved by the delight, for the sake of delight. The cosmos are the pages, objects are the letters and events are the varied plot of the grand epic. We ourselves are the various characters projected out of His being and consciousness. Some of these characters have been well-developed, while others are at different stages of their development. When fully developed, each will express something of His Being. This development takes time, a long time, as it has to grow from a seed state to the full-fledged tree of creation that would represent His infinity in Time and Space. Hence, the long, painstaking, and patient process since when complete it will express the Divine Perfection in Matter. Yes, the shaping hand’s tremendous touch is sometimes felt as pain, but if we endure with faith, then we shall see how everything was needed to take us one step closer to the Divine Idea embedded within us. Yes, we too have a role to play. We can hasten or retard, be aligned to or resist the Divine Will and its working through faith, aspiration, and surrender, or as its opposite through revolt, doubt, and despair. But in the end, eventually the Divine Will will be fulfilled and the Divine Perfection and the dream of Divine Life manifest upon earth.
