Yes it is indeed interesting that it is Arjuna who has been chosen by the supreme Godhead for revealing his grand Viswaroopa and not some ascetic on the mountain top or some sage in a hermitage. It is so because, as Sri Aurobindo reveals in Essays on the Gita, the supreme revelation is not for those who shrink from life and seek escape. It is not even for the average seeker trying to find a door for personal moksha or a permanent respite from the struggle and shocks of life. The highest vision of the Godhead is reserved for the heroic soul who shrinks from nothing but lives to fulfill God’s Will in humanity, whether by engaging in the battle or through the humblest of works done for Him in silent adoration. He who seeks God for something, even if that be his highest personal good such as salvation finds something. But he who loves God for Himself and is ready to serve Him in whatever way God may will, He who is ready to give everything, demanding nothing in return is chosen by the Godhead for the supreme revelation of His highest Self that unites God and World and the world march in a single unbroken unity.
Affectionately,
