AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

As we open Facebook and Whatsapp of various groups to which we are tied or are at times forcibly included because of past associations, there are postings against activities of other religious groups, which are depicted as anti national😡 or against our religion. We know that age of religion is over. But we also don’t like which go against our cultural heritage or say philistine in nature. What should be our attitude to or reactions to all such postings?

It is for each one to decide.

One can try to understand if there is a truth in what is said.

Or one can choose to remain indifferent.

Or one can present one’s own views based on factual understanding.

Or one can quit the group.

In any case being beyond religions or above religions doesn’t mean one turns a blind eye to things around. Especially in a yoga that aims eventually to impact and transform the worldly life, one needs to see everything and the play of forces with open eyes and try to understand them with a true light.

Subsequently one may choose to act or not act. But an understanding of the Divine Play is very much part of the comprehensive knowledge towards which the yoga strives.

Sri Aurobindo himself wrote several Essays in defense of Indian culture when it was attacked by a western critic. It is available as Foundations of Indian culture or The Renaissance in India.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
