AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER

Mahamaya (The Veil of Ignorance/Illusion): it binds the Soul to the material world by projecting the illusion that the temporary (body, wealth, status) is permanent and that we are separate from the Divine. 😊🙏🏻🌻✨[…]

Like a cloud that obscures the sun, Mahamaya doesn’t change the sun’s brilliance but hides it from those on the ground.

Yogmaya (The Veil of Love/Divine Mystery):

It “veils” the Lord’s supreme majesty so that devotees can interact with Him in intimate, loving relationships (as a friend, child, or beloved) without being overwhelmed by awe and reverence.

It is compared to a curtain in a theater that allows the play to happen; it creates a “transcendental bewilderment” that enables pure love

This is far from being a true or complete statement. It is how the traditional Advaita tries to explain the paradox of a Creator who is ever at peace, free, blissful and the creation that is transient and consists of a mixture of good and evil, joy and sorrow. It doesn’t explain what exactly Maya is, why it came into existence, why the veil was allowed, why the cosmic drama started at all. There are many unanswered questions left unsolved by this standard Vedantic explanation. You may like to read Sri Aurobindo’s thoughts on Brahman and Maya revealed in chapters 1 to 6 of Book Two, Part One of The Life Divine. You will also find some of my talks on this issue on auromaa.

Love is not a power of illusion creating a subtlest veil between the Creator and the Creation. It is, on the contrary, the most powerful Force to join creation with the Creator.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
