AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

These days, due to negative news, parents are often afraid to send their daughters far from home, and even if they do, they remain constantly worried. Is their fear justified😠?

This fear or rather apprehension is not only natural and normal but actually a protective reflex in parents, mostly in mothers as a maternal instinct. It is not a baseless apprehension either. However while this may be a short term remedy, it is not a long term solution especially as children grow up and need to go out for studies.

What is more important is to equip them by sharing the knowledge appropriate to the age, by transmission of cultural values, by teaching them the value of discipline and by personal example of how you would conduct yourself in the world at large. Every girl should especially be given a basic practical training in self-defence including such advice as carrying a pepper spray. Apart from this when ocassions arise and the situations are familiar allow them to travel little far to safe places with friends so that slowly the confidence builds up when they  venture into new and unknown territories.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

First about the facts. Mr Sonam Wangchuk is not inspired by Sri Aurobindo. There is nothing even remotely common between him and Sri Aurobindo whose name he has used as if he is going through a similar process. It …

“There is no criterion, but one can easily distinguish if one is in the inward condition, not sleep, in which most visions take place, by the nature of the impression made. A vision in a dream is more difficult to distinguish from a vivid dream-experience but one gets to feel the difference”- from Letters of Yoga. Alok Da, can you please explain the last line written by Sri Aurobindo? 🌄

A vivid dream experience is generally of a symbolic nature that reveals a deeper truth through the sign language of dreams. A vision, on the other hand is an…
