It means that we exist at several levels each with its corresponding identity. But the core identity, the permanent truth of our being, is that we are a portion of the Divine, Mamaivansha, as Sri Krishna says. But ordinarily we are not aware of it and hence we have to discover it through yoga. Until then we have to accept it through faith. It is the secret soul, the psychic being in us.
