AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

How can I avoid getting irritated over small things? I have a short temper and want to learn ways to manage my emotions and stay calm in everyday situations. What simple practices can help me develop better self-control, patience, and emotional resilience in daily life๐Ÿ˜?

First thing is to cultivate the habit of not speaking or acting impulsively when in a state of anger. Even if one succeeds occasionally to begin with, it becomes easier with time.

Secondly one should watch out for cues and early signals and step back as soon as the the triggers are coming. If needed one should physically move away from the trigger situations.

Never justify the anger or blame it on someone. Instead look for alternate strategies to deal with people who turn on the handle.

As a long term practice cultivate inner peace and call the Mother (or whatever form one conceives of as the Divine) in susceptible situations and in fact as often as you can.

Pray to the Divine to remove the anger.

Play or do exercises to wash out and sublimate the excess energy of anger.

Try to practice generosity and kindness and love towards everyone.

Look into the deeper underlying causes, frustrations, fears etc that are a breeding ground for anger.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

I was recently diagnosed with mild autism after going through the screening for family reasons. I have been following the Mother and Integral Yoga for a few years now. I was suspected of having autism as a child by a Teacher, but the Doctor misdiagnosed it, I think. Instead, I was told I was a gifted child. ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿฅฒ[โ€ฆ]

I would not label you with autism or for that matter anything else. I have met a few people who are unable to handle excessive vital energy not because of any weakness or narrowness but simply because they were endowed with a simplicity and straightforwardness that is so rare in human beings. It is certainly a positive…
