First thing is to cultivate the habit of not speaking or acting impulsively when in a state of anger. Even if one succeeds occasionally to begin with, it becomes easier with time.
Secondly one should watch out for cues and early signals and step back as soon as the the triggers are coming. If needed one should physically move away from the trigger situations.
Never justify the anger or blame it on someone. Instead look for alternate strategies to deal with people who turn on the handle.
As a long term practice cultivate inner peace and call the Mother (or whatever form one conceives of as the Divine) in susceptible situations and in fact as often as you can.
Pray to the Divine to remove the anger.
Play or do exercises to wash out and sublimate the excess energy of anger.
Try to practice generosity and kindness and love towards everyone.
Look into the deeper underlying causes, frustrations, fears etc that are a breeding ground for anger.
Affectionately,
