AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Dear Sir, I am a huge Cinephile, although I avoid low-grade Cinema like Horror, too much Gore and Violence, Vulgar and other such Genres. πŸŽžοΈπŸŽ¬πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»πŸ¦‹[…]

For me, seeing the Cinema is like I am living several lives, experiencing things which I couldn’t do in one life, it seems it satisfies and exhausts and helps in refining or losing my vital passions, desires, fears, etc. Also, sometimes (although rarely), I find profound Spiritual Truths in them that satisfy my inner Heart.

For example there was a beautiful coming of age film called ‘Edge of Seventeen’ – where there was a scene where the lead girl had some problems and mishaps, and she was sad, and in that scene suddenly she prays to the God (learning that it is out of her hands) and I was amazed that this is right way to handle it, by a Prayer. There are many such examples. Your thoughts, Alok da?

It is quite true that one can learn a lot from Cinema as it does provide a Kaleidoscopic experience of life, though often exaggerated and dramatised. Watching a film consciously without getting caught in its emotions can be helpful at a certain stage of evolution, as long as one is selective and discerning about the movie that one watches.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
