AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER

In his book “The Mother”, Sri Aurobindo writes–”In all that is done in the universe, the Divine through his Shakti is behind all action but he is veiled by his Yoga Maya and works through the ego of the Jiva in the lower nature.” What does “Yoga Maya” mean? How does the Divine work through man’s ego🤔?

Yoga Maya is the power of the Divine through which He limits Himself into form and name. Thus the jiva feels himself a limited being even though in his deep essence he is, each one of us is, Divine. This identification with the limits and boundaries of the ignorant lower nature is the ego-self in us. This is needed at a stage of our evolution and the Divine acts accordingly without disrupting the ego prematurely, making us feel that we are the doers even though it is He who is conducting everything from behind.

Affectionately,
