Food has a very secondary importance in spiritual life. What matters more than the nature of food is the occult atmosphere in which it is prepared and the attitude with which it is eaten. Best is to take what is provided and eat it without greed and attachment. Taste is largely a matter of conditioning, constitution and habit. As consciousness changes, the food also changes. Certain types of food drop off while others enter the menu effortlessly, spontaneously. One need not pay much attention to it.
In general though Sattwic food, that is simple, fresh, natural, succulent and tasty is considered good for the mind. Rajasic food such as meat, spices etc stimulate and excite the system whereas tamasic food such as stale, old, onions etc dull the human system.
