AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

It feels painful to see so many kids and children suffering and dying during the ongoing wars in the world. I have one question: What could be Gods plan in doing such things? Sometimes it baffles me up, seeing babies and kids suffer, and I find all this so disturbing.😣 […]

I feel like we all humans are powerless and just like insects that can be wiped out at any time during the course of the evolution of civilization or time. Can you please give your opinion on why such suffering is written for babies and kids, because they are innocent and defenseless? Although Humanity has grown a bit more sincere from the previous civilizations but I still find this so disheartening.

Suffering is not a punishment to the wrong doers. Innocent good people suffer as much or sometimes even more than the bad and the wicked. Strangely, children who don’t look at life as a sensitive adult does and who often react to situations instinctively almost like an animal, suffer much less than adults who invariably worry about future consequences and responsibilities. As a doctor i have seen it very closely. But yes it is true that the sight of suffering children moves the heart much more deeply, not so much because of the innocence as due to their being helpless to defend themselves.

As to the reasons for suffering, its deepest cause is the imperfection of life, of our material existence, its ignorance and as its consequence, many limitations that we experience. Ultimately that is the ultimate purpose of suffering in whatever form it comes, to awaken matter, to push us to seek and strive for something higher, truer and greater. As revealed in Savitri:

‘Pain is the hammer of the Gods to break

A dead resistance in the mortal’s heart,
His slow inertia as of living stone.

If the heart were not forced to want and weep,
His soul would have lain down content, at ease,
And never thought to exceed the human start
And never learned to climb towards the Sun.’

Affectionately,

Alok Da
