The Dark Ages of mankind saw the birth and rise of two Religions, Islam and Christianity. It was a time when post Buddhism and Mayavada, the full orb of the Sun of Sanatana Dharma was in a state of eclipse dwindling into narrow streams of sects and cults. During this period Christ took the gospel of the Buddha to the West as well as the bhakti of the Vaishnava traditions with which he seems to have come into some kind of a contact. Mohammed emerged to counterbalance the gospel of love and compassion for which the Western world was not ready. He embodied Force and hence appealed to the passionate Arabs. His followers went all the way to Europe to remind them that Love without Force is incomplete. On the other hand they came all the way to India (and further) to give a rude wake up call to the Illusionist Mayavadin, the peace-loving Buddhist world and the love-mad Vaishanava saints that Compassion and Wisdom must complete itself with Strength and Force. This work of awakening India from the slumber of Illusionism and ritualistic bhakti was complete with the advent of Shiva ji and Guru Gobind Singh and hence the force that Mohammad embodied withdrew from Bharat. Its mission was over and since then the destructive energy of Shiva that Mohammad embodied began to recede and the sword of Islam that once reigned has been broken and will continue to break until the rising tide of Time towards the New Creation will leave no remnants of it anywhere. This is how I see the total picture.
In the aftermath of Islam, Christianity set its foot upon the Indian soil even as India was still reeling under the spell of Kaliyuga and the dark phase of Islamic invasion. Its role and purpose was to challenge and widen the awakening soul of India so that she can be fully ready to resume her rightful place in the New Satyuga that began to prepare its coming with the advent of Sri Ramakrishna but set its feet finally with the coming of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. The cycle has come full circle and will see the rise of India and the Sanatana Dharma in the New World order and as the Sun of the Sanatana Dharma rises, the moon and the stars and the lamps needed in the night will naturally lose their necessity and their light merge in the growing Light of the New Creation.
As to Mohammad himself, he seems to have been a karmayogin who came to unite the warring tribes of the Arab world under the umbrella of a monotheistic Religion with strict rules and regulations which were probably needed for the then ruthless and barbaric tribes in the desert. The Religion reflected the landscape of its origin, dry, barren void of the beauty and diversity that Nature brings in its fullness. A harsh Religion was perhaps the only thing for which that part of the world was ready. But Force without Wisdom and Love stumbles by its own speed. Like all things born in Time, Islam is destined to decline as a spent force unless it choses to evolve beyond one book and one prophet. A line of Islam did have this possibility in its early days but the hard-core rigid Islam governs the Muslim world today. And all things that refuse to change with the flow of Time and the demand of the Time Spirit are broken aside with the march of civilisation that Sri Krishna leads. What we see happening in Africa, in Europe, in Asia and the America is the implosion and disintegration that has begun in Islam. It is like the last flare before the flame dies.
This is how i see the movement of Islam, a mighty force of destruction born from the energy of Shiva whose time and purpose are now over. It is imploding and will end up destroying itself through mutual fights typical of Asuric cults and be run over by the feet of Time giving way to a nobler, fairer, beautiful, God-governed world which, in its high moments it dreamed but failed to realise.
I may add that it is the fate of all religions that become too rigidly crystallized, too formally organised, tied up in knots of narrow dogmas and doctrinal belied systems. If on top of this too rigidly institutionalised religion which thrives on blind beliefs and postmortem lures and fears, get mixed up with political ambitions then it becomes a most dangerous and heady cocktail. It opens doors to the very forces that the Religion claims to oppose. The rot sets in front within until the whole structure crumbles, – either to give way to evolutionary reforms or to perish. Then the original spiritual impulse that gave it birth tends to be stifled and escapes from the hard mould leaving the throne once occupied by some aspect of Truth into the hands of falsehood. This is what happened to Islam and to an extent with the Christian world. This is what we see happening now, sadly though, to the Sikh world. Sanatana Dharma escaped this due to its inherent wideness, catholicity of approach, encouragement of questioning and discussions, acceptance of the evolutionary principle and not tying itself to one person, one revelation, or to one book. That is why it survived the onslaught of the Islamic and Christian invasion and that is why it is not only the only ancient Religion (if we may use the word to describe it)Â Â with a hoary past but also the Religion of the Future.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
