AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Alok da, I am not able to be grateful towards the divine😇. I often get the stupid feeling that it is the divine who has taken the form of the universe and ourselves, why should I be grateful for whatever she has done for me as I am not separate from her. How do I let go of this thought?

The mind needs to understand that there is a difference between the intellectual conception of a profound truth and actually realising it. Right now the mind is covered by a veil of ignorance and what we call as the I or myself is a construct of this ignorance. So an intellectual conception in ignorance without the force of realisation accompanying it is like a cheque that one cannot encash because it doesn’t carry the authorizing signature. This signing authorizing is our own highest Self that we call as the Divine. We have to take the cheque to the authorised signatory. We (the lower ego self) can do so either through intense concentration and tapasya, the way of knowledge, or through devotion, service and surrender, the path of bhakti and karma. In the former there is no need of gratitude though here too the limited ego-self must abdicate and lose itself in the greater, higher true Self. This is evidently not easy and in fact incomplete as the heart and life do not engage in the seeking. But the other path is easier and more complete. It is here that surrender, devotion and gratitude become a necessity of the path.

So basically the refusal towards surrender and gratitude is the refusal of the ego that resists losing itself in the Divine. But the soul knows itself as the child of the Divine Mother and feels spontaneous gratitude. Try to find the true soul in you connecting with the Divine in the heart, and gratitude will spontaneously emerge.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Dada, there is a professor at IISC who is a sadhaka in the sampradaya of Madhvacharya, and he says that, according to him, the way to find your Swadharma is to do what you can persistently despite failure. I want to ask, is this a good way of practically knowing, or is it too reductionist? And according to you, what can be the best practical way for a young child?🧒📚✨🌱

That is one way of looking at it. But a slightly negative and outer way of looking at it. There are plenty of things we do which do not involve success or failure. We do it because we find a natural joy in it. This spontaneous joy …

Is drinking small quantities of alcohol really that bad? Most people I know consume alcohol in some measure. I noticed that the ones who quit it completely face backlash from Society. For example, I heard business people say that you can’t trust a person who doesn’t drink. 🥂💬🍸🎶[…]

It is not a question of good or bad from a moral point of view. But drinking alcohol is certainly harmful for the physical, as well as psychological and I would even say spiritual health. The list of physical problems is too long and generally too well known to elucidate. …

Yesterday suddenly realised during my prayer with my mother that the seat of the Psychic Being is Highar Vital, in the Hridaya Chakra. Initially, I feel Peace, Bliss and Delight up to the Vishudhi Centre. Suddenly realised that my heart has received The Mother’s Peace and is spreading to all the centre of my all the inner parts and similar to the mother light also. Suddenly feel that the heart centre is doing everything. Alok da, is our Sadhana going in the right direction? Please guide me. 🪷✨💖🕯️

Yes absolutely, the psychic being is behind the heart centre and when open and in the front then all becomes easy and natural.
Your prayer is a beautiful psychic prayer and the yoga going in the right direction.
