AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER

“Gautam Buddha had renounced everything in the internal circumstances he faced; I don’t think the Gita could have resolved that situation by sending him back to household life and restoring the kingdom to him.” — Sri Aurobindo (Gita Prabandh, Essence of the Teachings) Sir, what kind of problem was it that the Gita could not solve🤔?

Arjuna’s problem was whether to fight the war or not. He was fleeing from his duty, being afflicted by the attachment to his family. On the other hand, Gautam Buddha was abandoning all bonds of attachment to seek a solution to the world’s suffering by going into solitude. Arjuna’s renunciation is of a tamasic (inertia-driven) kind, while Buddha’s is of a sattvic (pure) kind. Therefore, Arjuna’s detachment from life born of delusion and personal pain is without any spiritual force. It is a hypocrisy and an urge to escape so to say. Nor is it consistent with his deeper urge natural to his inner self, swabhava and swadharma. On the other hand Buddha’s renunciation emerges from soul depths and an inner strength. His is a genuine seeking to find answers to human suffering even though there is none so far in his personal life. Even though the desire for renunciation in both seems similar, their mental attitudes and motives are different. Hence the advice that Sri Krishna may give to a Buddha will be different and cannot be generalized

I want to know if The Mother refers to Sri Aurobindo as ‘Lord’? And so, when They say, the aim of life is to know the Divine and unite with It, do they mean to know the Lord and unite with Him? So, do we look to know Sri Aurobindo and The Mother as the Divine, and unite with Them by offering ourselves to Them integrally? I am curious how you understand this and practice this aim of Life. 😊🙏🏻🪷❤️‍🔥
