AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Is it true when a person entering to this yoga and after progress in sadhana they can loose their memory power. I was reading this in letters on yoga. The loose mind means what is he becoming mad ๐Ÿคช or their mind forgetting everything that he had kept in his mind except the divine?

There is no such rule in this yoga. In fact most people retain their memory as well as sanity quite well.  Want of balance is never a desirable thing and far from being a sign of progress is often an indicator of an inner disharmony leading to madness. This is often due to vanity, lack of humility and sincerity though sometimes it may happen that there is a sudden progress in one direction while neglecting other parts of nature which may in turn lead to chaotic activity showing up as madness. This is somewhat like the phenomenon of genius wherein the nature shoots up in one direction at the expense of other parts leading to a breakdown or odd behaviors. But this is an exception to the general rule. The other aspect unique to this yoga is the inability of the body to bear the pressure of transformation from the higher consciousness.  As such even in traditional yoga an upsetting can take place if the consciousness expands quickly not allowing enough time for the body and mind to adapt as we see in the case of Swami Vivekananda and Sri Ramakrishna.

As to memory loss it is quite common in the elderly due to the loss of brain substance with age especially if there is a heredity predisposition.  Otherwise in general yoga tends to sharpen the intellect and memory due to conservation of energy and its sublimation towards the higher centres of the brain.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

I would like to know how being an only child or having siblings helps in our Spiritual growth. Since I am an only child, I have been judged for it before. A teacher once told me that I was probably spoiled because I am an only child, which is not true. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿป๐ŸŒผ[…]

Don’t listen to these self-styled psychologists. The main advantage of having a sibling is that one learns sharing at home itself. But the same lesson can be learnt in school and with friends. On the other hand, having a sibling does sometime brings in sibling rivalry which distracts one from the path intended. Having siblings also brings in …

Alongside the Integral path, I feel drawn to certain traditional spiritual practices, such as Chakra-based Mantra Meditation and chanting the Lalita Sahasranamam. Our evolution procedes along several lines through which we have moved. It is natural that some of the practices of certain spiritual paths may extend into our present. For some, these other lines drop altogether and everything gets centered around The Mother…
