AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER

I have a very weird relationship with my parents when it comes to their relationships with their parents. I don’t share a very happy relationship with my grand parents due to their behavior with me and my family earlier in my life. They do not fit in my circle of people and i have communicated to my parents clearly that i will only have a cordial relationship with them, in terms of only greeting when we meet. I prefer to keep my wife and kid away from the grand parents influence, however my father’s expectation on this is more and we have a tiff every time an incident happens. I have come to terms with this situation, however how do I communicate this to my parents clearly and againšŸ˜ ?

Communication is mainly meant to build bridges by expressing what is going on within oneself. The purpose is to help build a bond of deeper understanding.  But if this is not possible or intended then it is best to remain silent, quietly continue doing what you feel is best and ignore the expectations. Silence itself communicates.

If you try to explain them as to why you don’t wish that your child to have much contact with them they will only feel hurt and press you more trying to convince you.  Certain misunderstandings are best left for time to heal. Though it may ease out the strain if you tell them that this distancing does not mean that you do not care for them and will not be there when they need you. They deserve this assurance and it will also be a good example for your child to learn. Respect may or may not be there as it is something to be earned but love should always be there as a baseline in life and along with it sympathy and care.

My niece who is 12 yrs old doesn’t like sharingšŸ˜„. If she takes her favorite food to school and her friends ask her to share, she doesn’t give or gives a very small piece. If by chance she happens to share a chocolate with girls she doesn’t like, she wants to snatch it away. She is attached to Krishna, and only thing that pacifies her is when we tell her that Krishna likes if she shares what He has given her. She says “I know it’s bad, i know it’s a devil that says this, but I can’t overpower it. It tells me that those girls did bad and said bad things about you, instead of that you shared your things, now you go steal something from them. Or I keep thinking what will I get if I give them”..[conti]
