AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I try my best to open towards The Mother, but I think my nature has too much of deficiencies. I am feeling that too much vanity, doubts, lust etc. are not allowing me to properly turn towards the yoga. Many a times I think that I should do traditional tantrik sadhnas like vishnu sahasranama recitation daily to purify myself first. But again I read from ‘The Mother’ book that I should have complete faith towards my guru and not be under any second influence. Please guide me how should I proceed properly and how to purify myself to do The Mother’s yoga😥.

The choice of yoga is not made according to the difficulties one might encounter but according to the aspiration or the goal that one seeks. Difficulties are always there in life, even in ordinary life. They are there in every yoga worth its name. One has to face them with courage and perseverance, above all faith in the Divine Grace.

However in your case they are not so much difficulties as they are tendencies natural to your age. You can’t uproot them violently. One has first practice sanyama, regulation of the desires by the mind, buddhi. Then as they become weak with time it will become easier to deal with them.

Meanwhile develop yourself in the directions that your nature indicates, progress through work by the practice of equanimity and Nishkama karma. Call the Mother’s Name, sit quietly every day thinking of the Mother, read Their books.  As a first thing try to establish peace within you rather than fighting with the difficulties.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

First about the facts. Mr Sonam Wangchuk is not inspired by Sri Aurobindo. There is nothing even remotely common between him and Sri Aurobindo whose name he has used as if he is going through a similar process. It …

“There is no criterion, but one can easily distinguish if one is in the inward condition, not sleep, in which most visions take place, by the nature of the impression made. A vision in a dream is more difficult to distinguish from a vivid dream-experience but one gets to feel the difference”- from Letters of Yoga. Alok Da, can you please explain the last line written by Sri Aurobindo? 🌄

A vivid dream experience is generally of a symbolic nature that reveals a deeper truth through the sign language of dreams. A vision, on the other hand is an…
