AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I’m a single woman living alone in a flat in a metro city. I feel very very cautious and very anxious due to this fact. I feel uneasy most of the time due to anxious 🫨look of uncouth people especially men around who are aware of the fact. So I feel very troubled about my safety and security. Also I want to overcome the very feeling and overcome ominous thoughts that trouble me. Also, I don’t have learnt techniques of self defense neither do I have any scope to learn it at this point of time.

Fear often attracts the feared. While caution is fine, one should never give the impression of being underconfident as it draws harmful forces near us. One should walk with head held high, a straight spine and confident look and firm steps. This is enough to make many such uncouth persons step back.

While walking alone keep remembering the Divine in whatever way you feel connected. If fear tries to enter increase the intensity of the calling. It is helpful to keep a blessing packet with that you can touch and hold from time to time. A ring or locket with the Mother’s symbol will also help.

At a practical level one can carry a pepper spray, rapid dialling of a close friend and just hold the phone to your ears as that gives an impression that you are in contact with someone while walking. Put a doorlatch and a keyhole on your door. These things act as a deterence. Put the Mother’s symbol outside your door and a photograph of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo in each room. Most importantly learn to call the Mother in every difficulty and danger. Her Name is the greatest protection to drive away fear within and the dangers outside.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Namaskar alok Da, Considering that Sonam Wangchuk – the Climate Activist – who is in jail, has drawn inspiration from Sri Aurobindo’s autobiographical account of his year-long detention in Alipore Jail (as detailed in ‘Tales of Prison Life’), – how do you assess the way the current government is addressing environmental issues and engaging with activists — and on what basis can one evaluate who is “Right” or “Wrong” in the government-versus-activist dynamic?” 🌿

First about the facts. Mr Sonam Wangchuk is not inspired by Sri Aurobindo. There is nothing even remotely common between him and Sri Aurobindo whose name he has used as if he is going through a similar process. It …

“There is no criterion, but one can easily distinguish if one is in the inward condition, not sleep, in which most visions take place, by the nature of the impression made. A vision in a dream is more difficult to distinguish from a vivid dream-experience but one gets to feel the difference”- from Letters of Yoga. Alok Da, can you please explain the last line written by Sri Aurobindo? 🌄

A vivid dream experience is generally of a symbolic nature that reveals a deeper truth through the sign language of dreams. A vision, on the other hand is an…
