AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

My grandmother is a very pessimistic and depressive person. And I noticed that relating tends to attract some accidents and bad luck in my life. She always says things like “I don’t wanna live”. But because she is so alone in life I feel a certain sense of guilt if I don’t relate to her and speak with her more often. Am I a heartless person if I choose not to sympathize with her self-pity and thus stay away😥?

Each one is responsible for what they do, the attitudes they take and the inevitable consequences they have to go through. No one can undo the web of Fate that people have woven for themselves through their actions and attitudes. By trying to sympathise you will not be of any help, if anything you will only reinforce the tendency since it is attracting attention. Guilt is obviously out of question. If you feel moved within you can tell her that negative thoughts do not help, only increase the chances of their occurrence. She is unlikely to listen or change in which case the best help is to ignore this part prone to depression and relate with the good things in her. If anything this is more likely to help than sympathising with the lamentations.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

The talk sounded like you were putting down Marriage as a concept! True, some regions do this horse ride/wasting money, which is in bad taste. However, Marriage as a concept gives the monkey minds a framework. 🥸💍💒[…]

Yes, I agree that for the average human being, these outer frameworks and social institutions do serve a purpose of holding people together. Of course, as I mentioned, marriage or not, love and togetherness can be beautiful and ought to be so. But for that, man needs to evolve beyond the present frameworks, which operate as long as one accepts the limits of dos and don’ts. …
