The relevance of the left in some states of India can be attributed to their connection with the toiling masses, organizing movements for their rights, and limited success, particularly in the agrarian sector, when they were in power in these states. I am not dismissing your opinion, sir. As a resident of a state previously ruled by the left, I am simply sharing certain positive aspects of their politics.
Yes. Quite in agreement with your observations. There are certain lacunas in governance (by any party) which leads to a dissatisfaction and change, the anti-incumbency. The problem, however, is about the Nationalistic feelings. They are low in states that did not face invasions much. Besides, the leftist parties dismantle the nationalist idea. The idea of a nation unit is replaced by the ideology spreading beyond boundaries, just like certain religions. It is this that makes it dangerous in the long run, apart from the fact that, eventually, an absolute control by the State would imply, at some stage, a loss of individual liberty. But most human beings do not think about all this as long as their little life is happy.
Having said that, no government is perfect, and all use propaganda. This is common. The question is not even of delivering goods but of the Idea that stands behind the policies.Β
Affectionately,
Alok Da
