AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

In YouTube I saw a video where tarot card reading was mentioned, out of curiosity I opened it, selected a pile intuitively and to my surprise few things that were told their were quite accurate. Firstly What exactly is tarot card reading and what purpose it serves, Is it a superstition? Did The Mother & Sri Aurobindo commented on this?๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐ŸŒ™

For people who are in the path of integral yoga with what attitude we should look at such occult things?

The Mother has not mentioned anything directly about the Tarot card. But if we take the essence of Her writings in these matters it would seem that the magic lies in the consciousness of the seeker. For example She has mentioned that when one is ready for the spiritual path, one gets indications and signs in response to questions. She suggested the method of opening one of Sri Aurobindo’s or Her books or any book imbued with the higher spiritual consciousness, with the question in mind to get an indication of the answer. This method has been well known since long. There was a similar method suggested with Ramcharitmanas.

But with Tarot cards it is also possible that the long usage has created a certain formation around it which might help. Of course these things are unlikely to work always or in all cases. Our faith counts and very often what is deeply in our mind or uppermost throws up its suggestions, almost like the projection of a strong wish or desire which may come true because of its strength. This is what The Mother mentioned in number of places including the wish people make when they see a shooting star. It is however a different story whether this wish fulfilment is necessarily good or not, from the larger and spiritual point of view. It is the power, the power of faith we invest into things that often makes them work. It is so even with superstitions. If we believe strongly in something we increase the chances of its happening!

In yoga conquest of desire is an important part of it. It is best therefore to surrender everything at The Mother’s Feet and leave it to Her Will as to whether it should be fulfilled or not. The simplest and age-old way is prayer about which so much has been written by them.

But then people do take interest in occult things and in the totality of our growth there is no taboo on learning it provided it is kept in proportion and in its right place. The main preoccupation and occupation in yoga is in union with the Divine and the fulfilment of Her Will in us and in all.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Dada, Thank you for giving your knowledge so generously, after being around Mother’s and Sri Aurobindo’s wisdom I feel guilty to ask and though I try to filter a lot of questions before asking but this one has been bothering for more than 2 years now. Dada I feel a sense of intense restlessness, while externally all seems fine, I don’t know when was the last time I really laughed. Its like I am definitely not doing what I am supposed to do while working, eating all times. Dada, I am nervous and restless but I dont know why am I feeling this way before I even get to the solution part. I cannot question my job and people around when its inside, how do I get rid of it. Dada I am so clueless that I even started started digging details of my birth chart, which I never really believed in. Please help/ dial your hotline to mother as to whats wrong with me ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŒ€๐Ÿ‘ฃ

There is no need to hesitate in asking questions. I only share a little of what the Divine Mother gives limitlessly. As I see it, your problem stems from hypersensitivity of the nervous system. It is a stage in human evolution and goes away as we progress further towards an impersonality. Certain exercises through guided Imagery on …

Many people say that people in India do not follow their traditions as strictly as they once did, and that there is growing resistance, especially among the younger generation, toward maintaining cultural practices. They often compare this with countries like China and Japan, where people are perceived to follow their cultural traditions more rigorously and preserve them with strong social discipline. According to this view, todayโ€™s generation is more distant from traditional customs than previous generations. Interestingly, this concern is most often expressed by people in their 30s and 40s ๐Ÿชท๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ๐Ÿ“œ

I am not sure about China and Japan of today. There is a general decline in culture everywhere and it is not without its purpose. The causes may be different, foremost of all being a pervading Western view of life and the instant gratification it brings. An insatiable vital hunger has been awakened, hunger for food, dress, pleasure of …

I saw a quote from Paramahansa Yogananda ji, where he said that God yearns for our love because that is the only thing that is not readily available for him. While I respect his words, I feel a bit confused because I have also heard that the Divine wants nothing (Bhagavad Gita). What is the truth behind this?๐Ÿน๐ŸŽ๐Ÿš

It is a little human way of putting it but there is a profound truth in it that has been corroborated by all the bhaktas. Sri Aurobindo himself has described this in quite a detail in chapters on the Mystery of Divine Love in the Synthesis of Yoga….
