AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

One aspect is living moment to moment with complete faith and surrender and see what life brings to you and the other is what mother says – that we should have a goal in life. For this you need to connect, network etc ..πŸ™ŒπŸ™πŸƒ

They are truths of two different levels and stages of inner development. But first we should correct our impression vis a vis what The Mother is saying. Nowhere does The Mother say that surrender and faith implies living from moment to moment in a passive manner. Surrender does mean accepting the Divine Will in our life but this is not to be confused with accepting everything that happens as the Divine Will. Imagine the disastrous consequences of this doctrine which would mean accepting all evil and wickedness and rapes and murders as Divine Will. She has clearly explained that in the present condition of the world it is seldom that the Divine Will expresses freely. It gets distorted due to a complex play of forces including our ego and desires. In our present state we have to choose, choose between Truth and Falsehood, good and evil, beauty and ugliness in our personal actions. A mind that does not discern can easily fall prey to all kinds of forces. The resolution lies in this that we should do our best, make conscious choices, discern between truth and falsehood. However having done our best we should surrender the results entirely to the Divine Mother.

Later as we grow in equanimity and freed from desires and the claims of the ego, when our surrender is complete because we are free of all demands and desires, then and then alone we are ready to receive and accept everything, whether it brings joy or sorrow, success or failure, pleasure or pain, life or death, as a gift Divine. The sign of this surrender will be a state of constant inner Peace and Joy, of Light and Love regardless of appearances. But until we reach that stage we have to put in the effort, the effort of making true and right choices, the effort of aspiring for ourselves and everything to become beautiful, harmonious and divinely perfect. This then becomes the goal, to grow in true knowledge, Wisdom, strength and love so that we can surrender in the truest sense, not mechanically as an automaton but consciously as a fully conscious person meant for the Divine Purpose.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

This is an alternate version which is clearly suspect. The original story is clearly symbolic of the triple forces of Nature, Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas, the three chariots of three asura brothers, notably of gold, silver and iron. The three modes of nature are never aligned. If and when aligned, the Asuras die and the Self is liberated. To do that …

The Mother and Sri Aurobindo laughed at the stupidity of religous conversions. They saw Religion as a spent force which is destined to be overpassed by the growing spiritual impulse in man. The upsurge of conversions, whatever its temporary success is destined to fail. The evolving human soul cannot be satisfied for long in any …
