AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

The murder of Mulashankar, a personal attendant of Sri Aurobindo, has been troubling my mind deeply. Why did a sadhak like him have to face such a horrific death? Why did the Grace and spiritual protection of the Masters not save him?🩸πŸͺ“πŸ”πŸͺ·

I understand that from the standpoint of Grace, things are not always meant to be smooth or outwardly favorable but could not such a cold-blooded murder have been averted? Do you know if the Mother ever spoke about this incident or if there are any accounts regarding what happened to his soul? I would be grateful if you could throw some light on this.

After learning about this incident, I am reminded of the Mother’s call to the Supreme in Prayers and Meditations: β€œI offer my every blood to Thee, if that be Thy Will.”

It was indeed a troubling incidence for everybody. It was a time when all over India there were many incidents immediately post partition. In Pondicherry it was against the French occupation. There was an inimical feeling against the Ashram as it was believed (wrongly so) that the Ashram supported the French as well as the British since Sri Aurobindo had openly supported the offer of Dominion status. It was a moment of deep confusion created by terrible Asuric forces. Sri Aurobindo and The Mother had advised disciples not to go out. But it seems certain rumours of someone’s death took the better of Moolshankar who disregarded the caution and went to the General Hospital to check. It was a melee out there in which Moolshankar was stabbed and killed. Sri Aurobindo was seen grim for the next 2 or 3 days. We can only surmise that he was possibly working upon the forces involved in the chaos and mayhem all over the country at that time.

One must note here that during the Divine’s advent there are often such events and incidents that are like the price to be paid for the victory. Abhimanyu, close aides of Lord Rama, all had to undergo such trials and sacrifices paving the way for the ultimate victory. We read so many accounts of attacks on ancient Ashrams of greatest of Rishis. Sri Aurobindo and The Mother both had remarked that unconditional protection is not available for everybody due to the conditions of the work. The sadhaks had their part to play. Here it merely consisted of not listening to the advice of Sri Aurobindo which was obviously ignored. Sri Aurobindo did caution about it mentioning that the yoga is a battle, inner and outer, against formidable forces. 1947 was indeed an extreme year. In fact the period from 1936 to 1956 (before the Supramental Manifestation) were extremely difficult years. 1965 saw another surge of attacks. But of course there is a spiritual recompense for every sacrifice and so too with Moolshankar. Fortunately, the stories of our life is not finished with one life. He is very much here in the Ashram, growing and happy.

Affectionately

Alok

There have been instances of the Mother scolding for example to Amal Kiran, Nirod da, Priti Dasgupta and Amrita. She has herself mentioned that She uses this very rarely as it can be misunderstood. But in fact it is an occult action and a very powerful goes out to drive away some deep insincerity that has taken the form of certain …
