AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I have been reading Savitri and other major Arya writings of Sri Aurobindo for last couple of years and I have observed that when I read it for the first time I didn’t understand anything but I held on to it, because of the Mother’s advice to read it even if you don’t understand. πŸ˜ŠπŸ“–[…]

I have observed that there is a drastic change in my level of understanding as compared to the time when I started. Even today, when I find a passage difficult to understand and when I return to it after a month, I can understand it easily. So, can you please explain the effect of His words on the human mind, its mechanism? I am asking this question because there is no effort from my side to raise my intellect; I just love Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, their teaching and mission.

That is a very correct observation which quite a few people make. The Mother has mentioned the process passingly that ‘the words create new brain cells if necessary for the understanding.’ It is due to the power contained in their words. These words literally force open the mind. Besides, love is a magic key, sufficient in itself to open the doors of knowledge and a higher understanding that arises as our mind opens to a greater Light and ascends to a higher consciousness.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

I turned 28 this February. I began reading Satprem and then skimmed over the basics of Sri Aurobindo’s Ideas as a supplement. From November to January, I had intense experiences at the Psychic Centre behind the Heart, which used to be perceptible throughout the day. Suddenly, it went away. Now it aches when I try to focus there. Feels like something has been pressing down on it. What to do, Alok Da?πŸŒ«οΈπŸ€”β“

It is an indication that some more preparation and purification is required to enter the doors. It is also important to do physical exercises regularly to ensure that it is not an encroachment of tamas, the need for relaxation that often follows a period of intense concentration. In any case there is no need to stop the concentration at the …
