Marraiges are of different types and different levels. The lowest is based on pure physical-vital attraction and an affinity of sensations. Higher than that is emotional attachments and vital affinities. Still higher togetherness is that of intellectual companionship where two persons share common intellectual interests.
Beyond these are higher relationships based on similarity or even sameness of Godward aspiration. Finally there are the deepest spiritual bonds forged by the Divine between two spiritually complimentary persons who come with a common spiritual mission and purpose.
Rarest of rare is a togetherness where there is affinity and complimentarity on every plane.
But these higher types are rare as most human beings still live on the vital and few on the intellectual level. The psychic and spiritual evolution is still going on and is often mistaken for religous beliefs. So we still have a long way to go.
