Your question is answered beautifully by Sri Krishna in very simple terms when the truth of surrender to the Divine is revealed to Arjuna. ‘First to the Self, then in Me’, says the Lord of the Gita. Being a Sakshi, the Witness gives us a great vantage point. The method that the Gita suggests is to turn the buddhi, the discerning intelligence, inwards and upwards so that all we do flows from the depths rather than as a surface reaction to situations and circumstances. While this practice gives us an inner vantage point, an inner freedom from the shocks of the world, it doesn’t yet give us the secret of action. Hence, it remains an important step towards something yet higher. That higher truth is the Uttama Purusha, the Purushottama of the Gita. It is by surrender to the Divine within our hearts (or beyond, if we like), that we find, not only the full release but also the complete secret of action. It is this turning to the Divine within with trust and surrender that is the next logical step that is awaits the seekers on the great journey of ascension.
Hope this answers your query. Hoping to meet you sometime, here in Pondicherry, or during some of my travels outside.
Thank you for the beautiful wishes. Sending my prayers for a happy and peaceful life ahead, filled and fulfilled with beauty, truth and joy.
Affectionately
Alok
