AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I am also The Mother’s child. When I was in my student life I came into the contact with The Mother & Sri Aurobindo due to my employer CA. Later I started going to the center and read the books of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo. At present I am CA. In my early career I started teaching as profession but due to voice box issue I need to left. So I started with share market work but from last few months I am making losses. Recently I read The Mother’s literature where she say not to work in the field of Share Market. Now I don’t have enough client to even maintain my office expense. How should I earn to manage my livelihood? πŸ“ˆπŸ’°πŸ’Έ

I don’t want to do any corrupt practice. I want to continue with my center for The Mother’s work but due to my personal financial issues it gives me set backs to even stress for doubting even The Mother’s Grace as now my age is 42 and I have two kids and my parents and wife. How to sustain in this and do not stop the yoga of Sri Aurobindo.

Please do guide me in this regards. I know that in the world of yoga there is not much place and importance for money but why every sadhak needs to pass from this phase where due to money or meeting the basic needs to life he needs to leave this. Is negative forces working to stop us in going towards The Mother and Sri Aurobindo. Right now I am totally blank for what to do.

I am not sure why you did not continue keeping CA as your main profession and instead went into the Share Market as the mainstay to earn money. Leaving aside what The Mother has said about it, share market is a gamble based on speculation, which is always a risk. I am also not sure why you have suddenly come out of it. There are many more serious things about which The Mother has said. Her comments about the Share Market are a word of caution, giving us a deeper understanding of these things. There are many more important things in Sadhana, mainly inner movements of greed and lust, doubt and anger and fear that are far more serious than investing in Share market. Sadhana is in fact primarily a process of inner change rather than changing one’s work, especially if it is the only means of livelihood. Even if you must come out of the Share Market it should be done gradually and in a thoughtful manner. Planning one’s life with the help of reason is part of our evolutionary process. I would not advice you to leave the share market suddenly. Instead you should invest wisely.

Look carefully into what your strengths and weaknesses are. If you are good at speculation then you could shift some of your money to good and stable mutual funds. Start taking some classes where your degree could be handy and helpful.

While engaged in the maintainence of your outer life keep the mantra of Remembering the Divine and offering it to Her as the anchor and support of your journey. Everyone has to go through certain challenges in life. None is exempt, including those nearest to God. The difference is that those endowed with faith and surrender go through it smilingly while doing what they must and whatever falls as their lot. While others go into more and more confusion and bewilderment. Life brings its unique challenges to everyone. It is how we deal with them that matters. The Divine does not necessarily make things easy for us. But He certainly helps us pass through the inevitable law of karma supporting us inwardly.

Difficulties and challenges are part of our life, in fact inevitable in our progress. They arise due to a number of factors. The true spiritual seeker turns even them into a means of one’s spiritual progress and inner growth.

Pray to the Mother with an earnest heart for help and to show you the way and the path will open.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
