AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Dear Alokji, at what point Sri Aurobindo acquired universal knowledge? Is this a siddhi? Any mentions in his record of yoga or other books about this process?πŸŒŒπŸ‘οΈβ€πŸ—¨οΈβ™ΎοΈβš›οΈ

It is said that the Mother is always present and looking at you. That does not mean that in her physical mind she is thinking of you always and seeing your thoughts. There is no need of that, since she is everywhere and acts everywhere out of her universal knowledge.

Sri Aurobindo, The Mother with Letters on the Mother, CWSA volume 32, page 169

The Records of Yoga mention about the Triple Time Vision or the Trikaladristi and its growth and fullness during the course of Sri Aurobindo’s own Sadhana. This is the ultimate culmination of the Cosmic Consciousness and the Universal Knowledge that accompanies it.

However he has described his experience and realisation of Vasudeva, the Immanent Divine everywhere and in everything in the Alipore Jail. We can therefore safely say that the realisation of the Universal Consciousness and a glimpse into the Supramental (as The Mother called it). It took place somewhere around the year 1908 – 1909.

The Mother of course had it much earlier, even as a child of 11 when She would experience becoming vast as the sky which She later describes elaborately as finding Herself in the heart of all creatures and in every atom of existence. But with Her the aspect of Power and Love or Ananda manifested predominantly. With Sri Aurobindo it was predominantly Knowledge and Peace.

It may however be noted that the cosmic consciousness is sometimes confused with out-of-body experience, astral travel and certain vital siddhis which is a completely different matter.

Affectionately

Everyone has truth and love within them, why should I cover it up with a scared imitation of the actual thing? I think I am not yet that open to Mother and Sri Aurobindo.βœ¨πŸŒˆπŸ’“β™ΎοΈ

We are all made up of different parts that pull in different directions and hence it is quite common to have certain self-contradictory elements within oneself. True, one has to recognise them and offer to the Mother with a …
