No it is a misguidance. It is leading people wrong. There are certain things which are evil and false. They have no role to play. They are just there because weΒ suffer for them to exist. The good people don’t concern themselves and let the evil thrive, but it is for us who think it’s a right to put things in their proper perspective. if there is a bit of good in them, say it is good to that extent: but there are certain movements which are entirely perinious, entirely harmful spiritually. They have to be put down completely.
What does this yellow highlighted sentence mean? Could you elaborate please.
I am not sure what the writer meant. It is difficult to comment on the writings of someone else, especially if one has not read them. Having said that certain general statements can be made as follows.
Demonic cults emerge in the early strivings of humanity towards something greater and higher. It is a very early stage of human evolution when man is still largely governed by the vital. Reason has not yet come into its full play. This early stage includes elements that are unimaginable today or create a repulsion such as the practice of human and later animal sacrifice. What we can say is that there was some good in them during the early stages of human evolution. It taught the egoistic individual that the group life and society lays a larger claim on his life. Now we do not indulge in human sacrifice but the tendency of completely subordinating the individual in the name of God and the collective good still persists. Isn’t this happening in certain religions even today where the individual is not allowed any freedom to explore and express truth in his own way, however misguided he might be. These are extensions of the demonic cults that still persist though modified by Time as the evolutionary current has carried humanity into the Age of Reason that has largely toppled these cults. Reason allows a great degree of individuality as long as the individual does not threaten the collectivity at large. In other words these cults have largely outlived their time. They are dated and their persistence in certain quarters does impose a threat to mankind at large today. Many of these cults persist under new and modified names in the garb of ideologies. Nevertheless the issue is what to do with them or should something be done at all.
There is logic for both but generally the dharma of the present Age is to let individuals and groups grow along their lines. The logic here is that, as in the past, the evolutionary impulse will take over eventually and leave the demon and the brute behind. But the other line of logic is that sometimes the resistance of the past may be so great, especially during the moments of evolutionary crisis, that active effort may be required to halt its advance as we see during the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and in our own times the second world war. Whether an individual should jump into the fray to eliminate the demon and the brute or simply press through the evolutionary path will depend upon each one. No general rule can be made. Besides, modern wars are fought as much on intellectual grounds as with guns. Each must find his place and his methods. What is however important is to be clear what is meant by a demonic cult or a demonic force. The distinction can be subtle as we see how the Inquisitions tried to eliminate the non-believer and the non-conformist but only ended up creating more and more non-believers and non-conformists as a reactionary revolt. In retrospect one can see that those who were punishing others in the name of God were betraying Him even more. So we should be careful before we label and conscious of what we destroy, lest we remove a rung of the evolutionary ladder too prematurely. One can understand if it is a harmful tendency within oneself, – it must be removed energetically, but when it comes to waging a ‘holy war’ against groups that one believes to be demonic, one should be careful that one is not washing the baby away with the bathwater or snatching away, a bit prematurely from someone the privilege of moving slowly due to genuine incapacity. Intolerance whether with individual or with the group life is never a good approach. The Divine takes time and works with infinite patience but the work is eventually perfect. We too must exercise patience and caution when we eliminate.
Affectionately,
