It depends upon what plane you are witnessing the same phenomenon. In the highest vision, everything has been marked out, the steps of our journey measured, the people we shall meet, the experiences and circumstances we shall have are all predetermined. This, however, does not mean that we should start believing that since a person has come into our lives, he is our permanent partner or soul mate. This is the error we make that since the Divine has somewhere let it happen therefore it is permanent. The Divine is working out an evolutionary process in us through a complex web of forces where everything is transient. Yet this transient, these passing moments (which we mistake to be forever) prepare the ground for the conscious play of the Eternal in us. Here comes the other end of the story, where all seems to be a natural consequence of our wish and desires. But our wish and desires and impulses and their attendant consequences are all part of the grand plan to teach and train the animal in us to grow into the image of a god.
However, this process can be shortened, compressed and made smooth through conscious choices, soul prompting and the Grace. This is what yoga actually does and is, a concentrated evolution through transient things towards the Eternal and later the manifestation of the Eternal Will in and through transient things.
Affectionately,
