The senses are the first informants to feed the mind and buddhi. The buddhi must then offer the information to the Divine Presence within and act under the higher impulsion. This is not easy. One should therefore learn to step back and wait before acting upon the stimulus by the senses, see the information in the light of one’s goal, its relative importance (or unimportance), its true nature since appearances can be deceptive, and then act. The senses are like reporting servants. They should transmit the information faithfully, without adding the spice of the vital nature or the sweet and sour of emotions. They must not rule us. That is all. Put in their right place they can give a just touch to everything. But allowed to rule they can completely derail the life.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
