AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

For a 70 year old healthy, spiritually inclined person, which is best for the pursuit of spiritual goal? 1. Having a disciplined  life practicing sadana at home without wandering unless it’s extremely essential or🧘🕯️🌿🌳

2. Going for pilgrimages which will disrupt the routine and sadana as we keep travelling. But it makes us mentally cheerful when we have good health, but scatters the routine?

As far as sadhana is concerned there is almost unanimity among the ancient Rishis that the main thrust has to be on the inner change, discovering the Divine Presence within and turning our heart into a temple and life into a pilgrimage. There were hardly any temples in the Age of the Vedas. So too the Upanishads and the Gita do not advice any temples and formal outer worship. No doubt these things are there in the larger Hinduism and serve their purpose. But they have little to do with the true spiritual life or yoga.

Of course one feels good when we go to a place where we have faith and do the pooja but there is a difference, even a world of difference between this and the life of sadhana and yoga which is primarily an inner journey.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
