AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER

It’s only after getting to know about the Mother that I’ve gotten so close to Her and I have conversations with Her as I do with Vishnu and Shiva. Why was it that I couldn’t feel that closeness as I did with the Mother before, with these Beautiful Shakthis I mentioned above?

It is because of the prominent place that the masculine aspect of the One Divine that has been given in tradition. Number of hymns to Shiva and Vishnu, but much fewer and not so well known to goddess Parvati and Lakshmi. Though tantra tried to correct the balance and the Devi Purana did bring Durga and Kali to the forefront, still, the collective faith and bhakti are heavily tilted in favour of the masculine aspect, Purusha, Brahman, rather than Prakriti and Maya that are even seen as the cause of bondage.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
