Consciousness is like a ladder where every rung is a step rising from the Inconscient towards the Divine in all the fullness and splendour. But what is in between the ladder is nothing else but the undifferentiated Sacchidananda. It is like the sky and space which is everywhere and in everything.
In other words one can realise the Divine at any level but that does not give us the secret of creation. Space is everywhere, even within atoms. But to understand the right arrangement of the stars and the powers that work all around and impact the earthly life, one must understand Space in all its totality.
In the ladder of Consciousness the Supermind is the connecting link between the One Sacchidananda and the lower triple world (Mrityu loka) of Mind, Life and Body (the Trilok) of the Scriptures. Beyond the Supermind are the three higher planes, Satloka, Tapoghana or Chitloka and Anandaloka. But Supermind or Maharloka is the link between the three above and the three lower worlds. Hence it has the secret of the Supreme Sacchidananda and the lower triple world of Ignorance in which we dwell. It is the junction or the meeting point between the three higher and the three lower worlds. Without the Supramental link we will not be able to understand the mystery of the lower worlds as well as of the Supreme Sacchidananda Himself. Nor will we find the secret Power that sustains these worlds hidden behind their movements. Hence its importance in the full knowledge and the transformation of earthly life.
The spiritual is a term used for the experience or realisation of the Divine either on the planes above the rational Mind and below the Supermind. In other words the mind’s development is not yet completed. There are realms and regions that climb beyond our present earthly life, regions of increasing light and calm that are like mountain peaks which take us far away from the earth. But they also increasingly disconnect us from the earthly life, almost look down upon it. They do not have the ultimate wisdom and power, the last secret of transforming this earthly life. At its highest they take us to the peaks of Intuition, an opening of the doors of the Spirit wherein one leaps into the Infinite losing all sense of individuality.
The Spiritual therefore is the realms and peaks between the present physical earthly life and the vast infinity of boundless Space and endless Time leading us to the Supreme. To take an analogy, the spiritual consciousness is like the mind that illumines our earth but cannot transform the earthly life. The Supermind is like the Sun that is above as well as within the earth (all planets have emerged from that) and can transform our earthly life into the Life Divine. In fact it is the Source of all light and power including the Light that is reflected from the moon. The spiritual consciousness can take us to a highest mountain peak or to the moon at the most. But the Supramental is the Sun itself without which life cannot even be imagined upon the earth.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
