The Hour of God is the period of Time when the Divine steps into the forefront and acts directly upon terrestrial life. The Avatar sets the process working by announcing the Hour of God,ย opening the doors for the Divine to step into the forefront by using the Avatar’s body for this purpose and by preparing the earth to receive the Divine Action. After the Avatar withdraws, the action continues as his physical presence establishes a new consciousness upon Earth. The action goes on until its purpose of taking Earth to the next level is accomplished. Once the new force is fully established upon earth and the new mode of operation becomes the norm, once the new consciousness is stabilized in its workings, then the hour of God is no more needed, as the new working becomes normal and natural in a certain number of human beings.ย
We can take a number of examples. Say, when the first aeroplane was built, the doors opened to the possibility of the Space Age and the internet. Well, the inventors of the first aeroplane died, but the possibility continued to manifest with different people using the principle of flight to higher and higher levels.ย
So too the Hour of God will continue until humanity evolves through successive challenges and intermediary species to the full manifestation of the supramental being, whatever time it may take. The time taken will depend upon how humanity responds to the new Divine working.
Here are two letters of the Mother which are self-explanatory in this regard.
‘Sweet Mother,
In “The Hour of God” Sri Aurobindo has written: “There are moments when the Spirit moves among men and the breath of the Lord is abroad upon the waters of our being; there are others when it retires and men are left to act in the strength or the weakness of their own egoism”1 and in one of your letters, you have said that one must not rely on one’s ego but on the psychic. Mother, will you explain this to me?
It so happens that we are not in an age when men have been left to their own means. The Divine has sent down His Consciousness to give them light. All who are able to do so should profit by it.
Blessings.’

‘Mother,
In 1919 Sri Aurobindo wrote that the chaos and the calamities were perhaps the pangs of the birth of a new creation. How long are these pangs going to continueโin the Ashram, in India and eventually in the world?
It will continue until the world is ready and willing to receive the new creation; the consciousness of this new creation is already at work upon earth since the beginning of this year.
If, instead of resisting, the people were collaborating, it would go quicker.
But stupidity and ignorance are very obstinate.
Love and blessings.’
