AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I have a six-month-old daughter. Sometimes, she falls slightly ill, and my family takes her to people who perform traditional rituals to heal her. When I oppose this, they turn against me. Additionally, they try to take her to lower-level ancestral spirits. πŸ‘§πŸΌπŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ‘§πŸ»πŸŒ»βœ¨[…]

My wife does not say anything and allows them to take her. At home, I have my father, mother, younger brother, and his wife. If I protest strongly, it creates an atmosphere of unrest in the house. I always pray to my Guru that he stays with her and protects her because I feel powerless in this situation. As a father, what is my duty, Alok Dada? Is this the cowardice that prevents me from standing against all this?

It is not cowardice but a sense of social behaviour inbuilt in many that prevents them from going against elders, even if they are wrong. At the same time, interfering much with their approach may create disharmony in the home, which is also not a good thing. So it may be best to quietly pray for her and discuss with your parents, giving reasons for not wanting to take her for this kind of healing. Normally, breastfed babies should be healthy. See if the home environment is clean and peaceful.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
