I tell myself and think that they’re still learning and I’ve to be kind for the Ansh of the Paramatma which is inside them. I always look at things in a broader sense which makes it easier for me to behave and accept the person when that behaviour is inevitable.
In the natural progression of things, it is the soul and the higher mind that respond first to the call of the Divine. Then it slowly trickles down to the heart involving the emotional being leading to the awakening of bhakti. Then the life parts in us get engaged. Its sign is the urge to serve, to work for the Divine. It is after this that the spiritual awakening touches the lower parts, the vital elements linked closely with the body which includes food, sex, sleep etc. Some are lucky in receiving the touch directly in the heart. If they need it they can come in contact with the psychic being which is a big help in turning the other parts towards the Light and the Right. But this is rare. Most linger and loiter in the galleys of the mind and its endless mazes. This can be quite dangerous at times especially if the sense of superiority develops and the spiritual and the intellectual ego replaces the authentic soul movement.
So you see it is a long process. The turning and opening of the mind to the light is no guarantee that the lower vital parts have changed. In fact the mind is quite an expert at justifying and deceiving itself and others.
As to outer gentlemanliness! It is never an indicator of goodness. It is simply an art that people learn to impress. A true gentleman is as rare as a swan in a flock of lookalike kingfishers.
Well the sum and substance of it all is that it is best not to probe or judge people as an animal might be sitting just round the corner to spring a surprise at too much closeness. Leave each to their journey. Their problems and difficulties are best left between each individual and the Divine.
Affectionately,
Alok Da
