AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Recently, I heard your talk on the Purified Understanding chapter of The Synthesis of Yoga, at the end of which you mentioned about development of the Intuitive faculty within us, which is in the beginning like rare flashes and gets mixed with the lower mentality. 😊[…]

But later, after constant effort and purification, it starts to stabilize and finally becomes fully active. So I had a few questions as follows:

1. How to identify these flashes as different from lower mentality?

They carry within them a certitude, along with an inner peace and joy that is the constant companion of any activity of the higher consciousness.

2. How to increase their frequency?

By growing concentration upon the Divine, inner quietude, equanimity, and an absence of preferences.

3. How might their application be extended to other spheres of life, and not just understanding Spiritual Truths?

Intuition shows us the truth behind every activity. If we are in a particular field of activity which has been given to us by the Divine or else has been consecrated to the Divine, then by adopting an inner witness attitude, its truth begins to reveal itself by and by.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Which book of Mona da is it mentioned? I have not come across it. Would like to see the reference. Sri Aurobindo’s own assessment of him was that he was a passionate sentimental idealist with the streak of ambition that drove him. Of course this comment refers to his personaity and nature in this life. It is not any judgment ….
