AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

I have a question on “When he mentions to his brother Barin that he is able to enter into the first layers of the Supermind or to Motilal Roy that he could dwell in the Parabrahman (the Highest Reality) for 18 hours a day.” When Parabrahman is beyond Supermind, how could the experience of Parabrahman come before Supermind to Sri Aurobindo?πŸ§ βš‘β˜€οΈπŸŒ

The terms beyond, higher and lower ceases to exist as soon as one steps beyond the cosmic consciousness of the Overmind. What one experiences then is that there is only One Omnipresent Reality everywhere and in everything. Since it is everywhere and in everything one can contact IT anywhere and through everything by simply going deep behind the appearances. That is how other yogis too experienced it even though they had no idea about the Supermind. They used the word Brahman when they approached it in relation to the world which was called Maya. But they called the same Reality Parabrahman in its Absolute independence to everything created or not manifested. The terms Brahman and Parabrahman are used for the same Absolute Reality in relation to or absolutely independent of the manifestation.

Now where does Supermind come in? It comes in if you try to know the why, the wherefore of creation. The yogis didn’t care as they were satisfied with going out of the manifestation. But the key to this question, this paradox lies with the Supermind. The same One Reality, called as Parabrahman connects with creation through the Supermind. The Supermind is the Omniscience and Omnipotence of Parabrahman. It is an independent plane that links the higher and the lower creation. One may experience the Parabrahman by jumping from the mind. But then one will not know the secret of creation. That is possible if one ascends beyond creation step by step and becomes conscious of the Brahman in its full supramental splendour.

Affectionately,

Alok Da
