AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

Can we hear the story of the Mother’s cross✝️ please?

As the story goes that one of the Mother’s Vibhuti was Joan of Arc who fought at a young age for ideals that would inspire strength in the hearts of the defeated change the history not only of France but sow the seeds of freedom, equality and fraternity in the world.  Now as we know she used to be guided by the divine and whose contact she felt through visions. The orthodox Church felt threatened at the rise of this prophet and hence decided to execute her on trumped up charges of heresy. She was to be burned at the stake for having claimed to have communion with God. The day arrived when she was being burnt. at that moment she asked for a cross to hold in her hands to tone down the agony of burning alive in the fire. But none came forward to help afraid of the backlash by the priests. but a young priest dared to defy and quietly threw a cross made up of hay towards her. while everyone failed to notice this the Divine Mother presiding over the spirit of Jeanne of Arc noticed this small but significant gesture of the dauntless brave woman. That was the moment when the destiny of the soul of the priest who had throws the cross was marked out. When the Divine Mother came down in Her complete manifestation as the Mother whom we know as Mother Mirra Alfassa among other people She called near Her Amrita da or Aravamudhachari Iyengar, a young boy who lived near Pondicherry as Her most trusted Manager whom she entrusted the running of the day to day affairs of the Ashram later on. When he passed away, the Mother remarked that he was the first and last Manager of the Sri Aurobindo ashram since there could be none other like him. It is a story of how our smallest gestures get noticed by the All-witnessing eye of the Divine and is more than suitably compensated when the time arrives for the fulfillment of that moment of destiny that had sealed fate. We may not remember but the divine never forgets. It is written in God’s book of Destiny rather than the book of destiny maintained by the general cosmic forces. This is what the story of Amrita da teaches us.

One can fully understand the space from which this question comes. When we look at this world in all its grim and sordid aspects (and there are plenty if we go down the lanes of history), then it is natural to blame it all on the Creator, to pass a summary judgment convicting the Divine without even trying to understand the reasons why the world is as it is. …
