AT THE FEET OF THE MOTHER
Ask Alok da

There’s constant thirst for reading  all kinds of spiritual books. Anything right from SriAurobindo, Bhagavadam, Ramayanam to Bible, etc. Though I want to stick on only to the practice of  spirituality as instructed and initiated by my Guru, I am  forcefully pulled up by different books. Even to, Savitri, I can’t stick on. How to come out of this great attraction for  unnecessary reading? Or is it helpful to me in my search after Truth? Till now no benefit, I found except some happy time pass📜✨📖🕉️

It is not time pass. Rather it indicates a thirst for knowledge which is a good thing. Of course it can be confusing sometimes if one wants to practise. But there are always certain common elements in spiritual practice too helpful to every participant on whatever path one is following. In any case what matters in the end is the core aspiration and books such as the Ramayana, Bhagawatham, the Gita and of course Savitri very much feed the psychic fire and enrich and strengthen the psychic life. So it is perfectly fine and I don’t see how they will come in the way of your following the path you have chosen.

Affectionately,

Alok Da

Alok da,This might not exactly be a serious spiritual question with depth but forgive me for asking this . One consistent pattern from childhood is that one sees is that in all the images and depictions that one gets acquainted of rishis, yogis is that they really have massive long hair. Shraddhalu ji in today’s times also has that look. But there’s this fear/tension of hair loss among young men today, it’s quite a psychological blow on one’s confidence and what not. And one opposite pattern has been that so many men of the homeless type or labouring class , even with all the malnutrition and what not really also have good hair and I’ve seen men young lads thinking about this being a result of life of low stress and what not. Does yogic concentration/metabolism have any indirect ripple effect on having a healthy hair cos that’s how all these rishis are adorned, I know it might sound silly but am curious

Hairs and Nails represent the inconscient atavistic elements in humans. They have an evolutionary necessity in animals but in human beings they are simply an extension of the animal body type. That is why there is in it a very strong genetic hereditary element. There were a number of very close disciples of Sri Aurobindo namely ..

But doesn’t marriage keep people stable also – or would they drown themselves in alcohol and drugs, as in the West, due to loneliness? Free intimacy is also a hindrance, right? At least it fixes your emotional, physical, and financial needs. To explore higher areas of life… or wouldn’t everyone just live like animals? Osho’s ways were effective in giving an alternative to marriage? 🏡🌿

Marraige is like a double edged sword. If the partner is right it can help create stability. If the partner is not the right one it can lead to chronic unhappiness, conflicts and instability. This is especially true of our times when the real stabilising factor, the family, is broken.

In the First Rik of the Rig Veda, Sri Aurobindo describes the nature of the Supreme as Sat-Chit-Ananda across different states of being. While explaining Nirguna and Saguna Sat, he uses phrases like “they nivṛtta, He nivṛtta” and “they pravṛtta, He nivṛtta”, which I find difficult to grasp. ☀️🕉️[…]

The Lord is both pravritti and nivratti, as the Fire and the Sun are both pravritti and nivratti. As Light they simply stand back and illumine the field but as energy they impel all things into dynamic movement. So too, the Divine as knowledge illumines all things with His Intelligence even without entering into them. But as power, Shakti, He
